The department consists of a good number of faculty members, who have experience in teaching and industry and well versed with current trends and technologies in the industry. Their sound technical knowledge helps in guiding the students in recent advances in biomedical engineering.The laboratories are equipped with analytic equipments like Colorimeters, Hb meters, pH Meters, Centrifuge, Microscope. The huge array of diagnostic equipment include ECG Monitors, Multipara Patient Monitor, EEG Trainer kit, PCG, Stethoscope, BP Apparatus, Ophthalmoscope.
Upon completion of the course, the candidate will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to handle biomedical equipment at all levels, from simple electronic design to highly sophisticated computerized equipments. They will be capable of supervising the operation and service of the equipments used in Medical field and guide specialists in various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by acquiring sound knowledge of the functioning of Human body. Furthermore, they will be prepared to contribute to academia and research in the fields of Clinical and Biomedical Engineering field.
M.App.Sc.BMI / M.Sc.BMI course was introduced in the School of Medical Education (SME),Gandhinagar,Kottayam in 1995.And our course is first of its kind in South India. Since then around 27 batches have rolled out. These students are well respected among the National and International Biomedical / Clinical Engineering community. The course is well accepted as a qualification to apply for Clinical/ Biomedical Engineering jobs. A good majority of the major hospitals/companies both Nationally and Internationally has employed a commendable number of Biomedical post graduates from our Institution.
Master Programme in Biomedical Instrumentation is the first of its unique kind of post graduate Biomedical engineering course focused on resource developments who are equipped to fill the gap between the Engineering & technology advancement & clinical practices.These professionals are multidisciplinary professionals who assist clinicians & associated Professionals to adapt the rapid changing clinical engineering technologies by introducing, adapting,Training and maintaining them in the hospital environment.
The School of Medical Education, a self financing college, previously run directly by Mahatma Gandhi University till 2016, came into existence in 1993 with an aim of providing trained human resources in the area of allied medical and health sciences. Now this institution is under the control of Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS), a Society established by Government of Kerala.
This is the pioneer self financing institution in the state of Kerala offering a variety of allied medical and health science courses. This is the only institution, spread across four districts in Kerala, conducting more than ten paramedical and allied health science courses under a single organisation. The Under Graduate and Postgraduate academic programmes of the school are so designed as to prepare skilled professionals of high calibre. Academic training and practice are imparted in collaboration with the Government Medical Colleges and reputed public and private sector establishments across India.
